So my friends shop is changing the axles in my CRV, one boot was torn and they have never been done so I’m just getting both swapped. My friend is always buying and selling cars from his shop, he has this right now and I have it for a few hours. I have never driven one of these, brakes are pretty good and it shifts well. I don’t drive many modern cars so it might just be mediocre. I have driven my friends S2000 and I would pick the Honda over this for sure.

the biggest advantage the Porsche has over the Honda is price.
there’ s a sentence that just doesn’t sound right.

It is rather shocking

Did the Honda have a complete interior? Because that probably swayed your opinion.
I’ve never driven a Boxter, but regardless of price, I would never go for one of the vintage. I can’t stand the way they look and how cheap the interior appears. More recent models would be worth checking out, but this one (even if fully put together) is not one I would even bother searching.

These Boxs ters are like 20% of the price of an S2000. Definitely not competitors at this point. This particular example seems to be worth about $3.50 :(

I drove his s2k new and then several years later he spent about $15k modifying it into a turbo monster. But based off of how they are stock I think I prefer the s2k feel, I am not a fan of the parsch blob lights and overall styling. He serviced this car mechanically and it feels very good mechanically so I think it’s fair to compare them that way.

Every time I drive a modern “sports car” I bench mark it to a 240z. I have yet to find one I enjoy as much. Sure they may be quieter or
have better brakes but they don’t have that
visceral experience, or torque.

Looks like that car spent its life with the top down. Like, all the time.

Yeah there is a reason I keep the z for sure! My brakes are great now with the rear disk kit, someday I may get larger up front but they are decent now. Oh man it makes a difference going over Mt Tam and up the coast. At least the Boxer is small and feels fairly light compared to so many heavy modern cars. It’s just a bit too modern for me, for a sports car I like a more raw classic feel.

Probably, there is a 996 convertible near me and they just have the top down all the time in the sun all day when they go to work and leave it home most of the time. I don’t get it... I’m mental about windscreen shades, I put it in when I go into a store for 20min.

IDK at least in my area you can find Boxster for 7-9k all day long, but S2000s are closer to 12-15.

So you’re comparing a beat-to-hell 986 to a new and then subsequently modified S2000? Geez. At least drive a nice Boxster before trying to come to a conclusion.

Huh I was actually thinking Boxsters were way cheaper, like $5,000 for a good one. And S2000s like $25K. I think you might be more right. These are gorgeous: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/cto/d/2005-honda-s2000-ap2/6716609808.html

The s2000 is better

No I’m comparing to when it was a stock s2k, read? The Porsche is actually very good mechanically, just cosmetic.

So you’re comparing a beat-to-hell 986 to a
new
and
then
subsequently modified S2000?
Don’t tell me to read, guy. Last I heard, NEW S2000's weren’t shipped from Honda modified.
![]() 10/22/2018 at 14:16 |

Than a beat-up 986? Agreed that a new S2000 would be better .

sazuka blue on blue is the best color for an S2000

Aside from the mediocre power, the early Boxsters are actually fairly nice cars. I’d highly recommend trying one with a real interior :)

No. Like for like.

Am I really the only one here who hates Suzuka Blue?
![]() 10/22/2018 at 15:22 |

Debatable. They each have their merits for sure, but the S2000 has proven your point in the way it’s retaining value. I’ve said for years that it’s going to be a future classic and only headed up in value.

Probably

Do you also hate blue interiors? I am a fan of colored interiors in general
![]() 10/22/2018 at 15:40 |

No, I like blue interiors. I'm just not a fan of Suzuka Blue. The other S2K blues look so much better to me.
![]() 10/22/2018 at 15:52 |

That fair the main reason I like the Suzuka blue cars so much is he blue interior. If it wasn’t together that it’d just be a blue car. I’m not really too in love with the color

Oh, I thought it would have been available on one or two other colors, like Laguna Blue or maybe GPW. I love, love, love the blue interior on the DC5R.
Suzuka Blue just looks like a color that goes on old people cars.
